AFP photographer Patrick Baz and a colleague were detained today by Iraqi police who said they were acting on orders from US military forces. Baz had been photographing a US vehicle that exploded when assailants attacked a convoy apparently transporting weapons and ammunition.
Patrick Baz, on the phone from the Fallujah police station: "Police told us they could not release us until American officers come here. The police officers, who would not reveal their names, explained that the Americans were looking for someone who allegedly filmed the attack that caused the explosion of a vehicle apparently carrying ammunition. We went to the police station after being told the local commander would hold a news conference about the attack. Once they arrived we were informed of our detention."
